Co-Principal Investigator (initial, at the time of proposal submission): Julia Ross, Ph.D., Dean of the College of Engineering & Information Technology (COEIT), and Constellation Professor of Information Technology and Engineering. Ross will work with COEIT and the Office of the Provost to facilitate engineering faculty diversity at UMBC.
(Julia Ross is now the Dean of Engineering at Virginia Tech University. UMBC’s new COEIT Dean is Keith Bowman, Ph.D.)
Morgan State Co-Principal Investigator: Monique Head, Ph.D. Associate Dean of Research, School of Engineering, Associate Professor/Structural Engineering, will hire the Coordinator for the training activities at Morgan State, and will oversee the project.
Morgan State Co-Principal Investigator: Yacob Astatke, Ph.D. Interim Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies, Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, will serve as a mentor for international engagement as a representative of the Global Engineering Deans Council/Airbus Diversity initiative.
UMCP Co-Principal Investigator: Darryll Pines, Ph.D., Dean of the Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland College Park, and Dean and Nariman Farvardin Professor of Aerospace Engineering. Dean Pines will facilitate engineering faculty diversity at College Park, and assist with state-wide discussions with engineering deans.
UMCP Co-Investigator (initial, at the time of proposal submission): Peter Kofinas, Ph.D. Associate Dean, Keystone Professor; Affiliate, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering; Affiliate, Materials Science & Engineering, will direct the project at College Park.

Johns Hopkins Co-Principal Investigator: Edward Scheinerman, Ph.D., Vice Dean for Education in the Whiting School of Engineering, will oversee activities at Johns Hopkins, and will assist with assessment and improvement of the PROMISE Engineering Institute’s practices.
Johns Hopkins Co-Principal Investigator: Darlene F. Saporu, Ph.D., Assistant Dean for Diversity and Inclusion for the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences and the Whiting School of Engineering, will lead the PROMISE Engineering Institute’s projects at Johns Hopkins, and will assist with ways to institutionalize practices that diversify the academic community.
